OPERATOR  SELF  VERIFICATION

Operator Self Verification (OSV) emphasizes personal responsibility for the quality  of  one's own work.  It is based upon a principle of trust that each employee wants to do a good job,  and the belief that many causes of poor quality are due to the failure of management systems such as poor instructions,  equipment, material,  environment, and/or measurement processes.

Employees are issued a Quality Stamp after basic training and a period of on-the-job training.  When an employee uses his/her stamp, it is a personal warranty that the work was performed according to the instructions, and the results comply with requirements.  The stamp is uniquely traceable to the employee and is superior to a signature because of its permanent legibility and traceability.  The employee stamp number is linked to their authorizations and qualifications as specified within a Skills and Training Matrix.

The OSV system is recognized in ARP9162 "Aerospace Operators Self Verification Programs".  This specification has recently changed from a recommended practice, to a requirement and is currently being flowed down contractually to sub-tier suppliers in the Aerospace Industry.
